The class B certificate can be renewed independently by the certificate holder/end user.

Procedure
220 days before the certificates expire, the certificate owner/end user can have a new set of class B certificates created on their smart card by using the wizard described here plus their valid class B authentication certificate. The certificate owner/end user will receive an email from the system 90, 60 and 30 days before the current certificates expire, reminding them about the impending expiry.
The certificate owner can perform the renewal process autonomously on their workstation; no explicit authorisation is required.
Validity
Class B certificates are valid for 3 years.
