The Confederation made Open eGov LocalSigner available for download free of charge from 2007 to the end of 2022. It worked:
- with local signature keys and certificates on smartcard and
- with the drivers for remote signing services of recognised Swiss certification service providers (local installation required).
Open eGov LocalSigner automatically ensured valid signatures with qualified timestamps. It allowed signatures in 'Sign' mode as well as in 'Certify' mode (with Option 2).
The maintenance, support and free distribution of Open eGov LocalSigner by the Federal Administration was discontinued at the end of 2022.
